Since inception, Umeed has extensively worked in Sangrur district. Based on our experiences, we have identified two crucial health problems- Cataract, high maternal mortality and infant death rate as areas of concern. Thus in the coming years we will be focusing our efforts in resolving these issues through super specialty hospitals that would cover a population of approximately 3.5 million people.
Eye Hospital
Through our Mobile Eye Clinic, we have estimated that over 17000 cataract cases need treatment. Thus keeping to our promise of providing primary and secondary healthcare, ‘Umeed’ is setting up an Eye Hospital in Sangrur through a joint venture with Shroff Charity and Eye Hospital, Delhi .This will be the first facility in the district, which will meet the growing needs for cataract surgery and lens implant. We are committed to treat the underprivileged free of cost, whereas there will be a charge for those who can afford the services.
Trauma Center
Sangrur District has no major hospital which caters to various diseases which require specialists. Umeed intends going into a joint venture with a proven and major service provider in this sector to open a multi – specialty hospital in Sangrur. The charges for the treatment in this hospital would be from free to subsidize to full charge depending on the economic status of the patients.
Dairy - Compost - Gas - Horticulture Project
We have constantly encouraged and helped women to become entrepreneurs by taking up commercial activities. In the year 2008, we started a company, Umeed Rural Development Pvt. Ltd. that is co-owned by Umeed and women who in the past have been trained by Umeed. These women, who will be shareholders, will not only be able to sell milk, dairy and other products directly but in addition they will also be given a monthly retainer. We are hoping, through this initiative, that we can financially empower the women of Sangrur.
