KNOW ARVIND KHANNA

Arvind Khanna

Hello,

Umeed is going great guns, with 12 new SHGs formed in September. A whopping Rs 6,10,000 has also been loaned to four SHGs and four individuals for dairy activities. All our regular programmes, including the notebook distribution and health-at-the-doorstep schemes, are on track. I am particularly happy that 600 children were checked by specialists from Fortis Hospital. We are planning more such medical check-up camps in different villages.

Another good news is that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured the Congress that a super-speciality cancer hospital will be built in Malwa region, where a large number of people are suffering from the disease owing to the use of contaminated water in the area. The Congress has brought to the notice of the PM the problem of pollution caused by industries in Ludhiana and Jallandhar and has sought the Centre’s help to sort out the problem.

The Congress has also brought to the notice of the Prime Minister the flood situation, which has caused widespread devastation in vast areas of the state and has sought a special flood relief package.

Meanwhile, on the Punjab front, the Congress has started the process of drafting the election manifesto, which will spell out the party’s agenda for ushering in change and prosperity in Punjab. Unlike other parties, the Congress election manifesto will not make any false promises. Utmost care is being taken to make sure that the party promises only what it can deliver in a time-bound manner. Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi is very serious about the implementation of the manifesto in letter and spirit. Though the party has no magic wand to alter the mess created by the Akali Dal-BJP government, but its honesty and desire to rebuild Punjab will once again bring prosperity to the state.

I wish you all a very Happy Diwali. May the festival of lights bring happiness to your lives.

Happy Reading!
