KNOW ARVIND KHANNA |
Hello everyone,
Time flies. It seems just yesterday when we started this newsletter to update our well-wishers on all that is happening at Umeed and now we are already in our seventh edition.
Umeed products were showcased at the upmarket Select Citywalk mall at Saket and Blind School mela in New Delhi this month. Visitors were amazed to hear that women from Sangrur villages had made such beautiful crochet products and bought them in dozens. The products were also displayed at exhibitions in Dubai, Chandigarh and Kolkata.
To encourage students to study hard and strive for excellence, Umeed gifted bicycles to around 233 government schoolchildren in Sangrur, who secured first, second and third positions in their class VIII and X examinations. Our aim was to provide them with a means of transportation so that they reach school without any difficulty and on time. Umeed arranged for bank loans worth Rs 6,20,000 for three SHGs, which started income generational activities and three individual loans worth Rs 2,45,000 for dairy activities this month. Sixty-three women have started income generational activities.
As many as 260 youth have registered themselves with Umeed/AR Job placement office and 161 candidates were sent for interviews in various organizations. Of them, 24 candidates got jobs in various organizations. Unemployment is a major problem in Punjab and the first priority of the state should be providing gainful and quality employment, with essential training, to control the growing trend of people migrating abroad. Through Umeed/AR Job Placement office, we have secured employment for 500 youth in the district in the past four months.
Meanwhile in Punjab, there have been talks of Anna Hazare supporting the Akali Dal-led government against the Congress. I have immense respect for Annaji and I am sure before embarking upon any programme to support the Badals he will verify their credentials and once he learns how corrupt they are it will be difficult for him to support them.
Lastly, I fail to understand why the Akali Dal is blaming Captain Amarinder Singh and the UPA government for the refusal by French government to lift the turban ban in France? Don’t they know that France is a sovereign country and India can at the most request them to reconsider their decision. The Indian government has taken up the matter with the external affairs ministry, including SM Krishna and Preneet Kaur, who have spoken to their French counterparts. We, like the Akali Dal, hope that the French government will lift the ban.
My best wishes on Guru Nanak Dev Ji Prakash Utsav. May Guru Nanak Dev Ji show the right path of truthful living and shower his blessings on you.
As always, I invite you to send in your feedback and suggestions, which will help improve the newsletter and serve you better.
Happy Reading!
