KNOW ARVIND KHANNA

Arvind Khanna

Hello everyone,

I would like to wish everyone a happy 64th Independence Day! This year, too, we celebrated the day by paying tributes to our freedom fighters and martyrs. Let’s also make a pledge to build a prosperous India, where there will be equal opportunities for all.

Congress President, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, underwent a surgery earlier this month. I pray for her speedy recovery. May God keep her in the best of health and spirit.

Also, warm wishes on Raksha Bandan to all my Umeed Mahila Manch sisters. I hope this year each and every women in Umeed Mahila Manch is economically and socially empowered. Taking this forward, Umeed, has formed nine more self-help groups (SHGs), comprising 94 members, in Sangrur district. In addition, 33 women have started various income generation activities in July.

Umeed’s dream of providing employment to the youth of Sangrur and its adjoining district took another significant step towards realization with the inauguration of Umeed’s job placement agency in association with AR Job on July 7. A whopping 738 youth registered themselves with Umeed/AR Job placement office. We had sent 255 candidates for interviews to various organizations and of them, 84 got jobs in different fields in July.

I believe development should be three-pronged, with focus on education, employment and health. Through Umeed, I am doing everything in my means to contribute to the growth of my district, Sangrur, and the state. I am thankful to all the people who have encouraged and inspired me with their support and I look forward to many more years of welfare work for my people.

Congress has always stressed on the important role played by women and youth in the growth of the country and believes in bringing them to the forefront. This year, too, we are keen on fielding more youth and women candidates in the coming assembly elections in Punjab and the party will ensure adequate representation for them.

Lastly, I am extremely happy that 17 Punjabi youth on death row in Dubai have been pardoned by a court there. This was made possible by the relentless efforts of Captain Amarinder Singh, who after meeting the accused in Sharjah jail last year, promised to bring them back to their families in Punjab.
As always, I will be waiting for your valuable feedback and suggestions.

Happy Reading!
