When Arvind Khanna was the MLA from Sangrur during the Congress Government 2002-2007, he had the good fortune of getting Rs. 50 lacs from the Punjab Government sanctioned towards the upkeep of the Banasar Bagh. Over the last two years the state of the Banasar Bagh has returned to a state of utter neglect.
Arvind Khanna has also written to Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Congress President, bringing to her notice the plight of the heritage sight and the initiative he has taken through his NGO Umeed in collaboration with the other NGO’s and local citizens of Sangrur.
Arvind Khanna is positive that this project will be a success and will bring back the glory of the Sangrur city and the Constituency.
