Set up in 1997, Umeed (Hope) is a social organisation that has received wide acclaim as a platform to help disadvantaged sections of rural and semi urban Punjab primarily through empowering rural women socially and economically.
It is now picking up the cause of women safety in metro cities like Delhi and its neighbouring areas. Umeed is the brainchild of Arvind Khanna, a businessman, philanthropist and former politician who chose capacity building for small rural women entrepreneurs for sustainable community development.
Till date, Umeed has reached out to 550 villages and benefited 12 million people of diverse communities with services in healthcare, skills development, income generation, social empowerment and community development across Punjab.
“When women participate in the development process and take charge, they become true catalysts of change”
- Arvind Khanna , Chairman Umeed Foundation
